In my early 20’s I ate some magical mushrooms and experienced something that changed my life forever.
It was a relatively small amount of fungi, but enough to alter my perspectives of the world around me.
I remember standing in front of a friend's house. I was in the black of night and under a street lamp shining light up into a tree that was softly blowing in the wind.
I was enjoying the beauty openly.
A smile was across my face ear to ear. The kind I feel lifting skin above my clavicles.
There was childlike energy rushing through my body.
Wow. . .
I couldn’t take my eyes off the fluttering leaves. The swaying branches. Continuous bending and adaptability.
It appeared to be an enticing dance from an ancient culture.
There was knowledge to be found within these subtle movements.
IN THAT MOMENT I realized that I wasn’t hallucinating.
There was nothing added to my vision.
I wasn’t seeing anything that wasn’t happening.
What had changed was my perspective. The clouds in my mind had dissipated.
The many wheels focused on production and distraction had stopped spinning.
I was able to see the beauty that was always right there in front of my face.
On a normal day, my mind was just too clouded to be present enough to experience it.
That tree blowing in that breeze was always that captivating. It wasn’t the tree that had changed, it was me.
Ever since then I have been finding that perspective more and more.
It has become training to see life through such a clear filter.
To see the depth of beauty at any moment.
To have the clouds in my mind dissipate so that I can be present.
This is training. As habitual creatures, we have been raised in a world that has taught us to always be thinking.
This is not serving us.
We are missing our precious life, moment by moment.
It doesn’t have to be this way.
I am creating a community that wants to dedicate themselves to building more PRESENCE within their day-to-day.
To be able to notice more and more of life’s gifts that are happening in every single moment.
